Dated BC Hydro business-rate context keeps class and units visible

BC Hydro assigns General Service treatment using annual peak demand and annual energy. Small, Medium, and Large General Service do not share one energy charge or demand structure. The current page also identifies minimum-charge, power-factor, discount, and service details that can change the bill even when solar reduces imported energy.

The table records selected charges visible on 17 July 2026. It is not a quotation and it omits taxes, riders, discounts, account-specific minimum billing, and other terms. The customer's current tariff schedule and bill must be retained with the calculation. None of these values is loaded into the Explorer.

Import service and exported generation are separate account questions

The self-generation update states that a customer takes one rate for electricity received from BC Hydro and another treatment for excess generation delivered to the system. That separation matters because a purchase price for exported energy does not establish the value of energy consumed behind the meter, avoided demand, fixed charges, riders, or taxes.

Rate Schedule 1289 closes to new customers when Rate Schedule 2289 starts on 1 July 2026. Existing customer and solar-rebate transition rules depend on account history. A commercial owner should confirm the applicable schedule directly with BC Hydro instead of assuming that an older net-metering description still applies.

Declared inputs show why import and export value stay separate

Declared non-default worked example. Public assumptions register entry: British Columbia declared energy-value worked example. The user enters 80,000 kWh of annual self-consumed generation at CAD 0.12/kWh and 15,000 kWh of exports at CAD 0.08/kWh. These are round user inputs, not BC Hydro rates and not a market benchmark.

Calculation provenance: 80,000 multiplied by CAD 0.12 equals CAD 9,600. Then 15,000 multiplied by CAD 0.08 equals CAD 1,200. Adding those two entered lines gives CAD 10,800 before demand, fixed charges, riders, losses, operating cost, tax, connection cost, financing, or escalation. The example demonstrates arithmetic only.

The utility response can change size, cost, export, and schedule

A self-generation rate does not approve a proposed electrical connection. The owner should document the account, service, proposed capacity, inverter and protection arrangement, meter, single-line information, operating mode, expected export, application record, study findings, utility work, permits, inspection, commissioning, and final authorization.

Feeder limits, service upgrades, protection, metering, or operating conditions can change the project. Every material utility response should return to the production and financial model. A project remains review required until the approved configuration and assigned account treatment are known.

Vancouver resource data is historical municipality context

The resource diagram uses the existing Vancouver record from the Natural Resources Canada dataset. Its annual south-facing latitude-tilt value is municipality-scale historical model evidence. It is not the current output of a Vancouver installation and does not represent the whole province.

A site study must address actual location, roof or land, orientation, tilt, shading, snow, soiling, temperature, equipment, losses, clipping, availability, curtailment, and interconnection limits. The source value can begin a range only when those qualifications stay attached.

Classify the BC Hydro account before valuing generation

BC Hydro's General Service classes depend on both annual peak demand and annual energy. A customer can therefore cross a class boundary because of a measured peak, total use, or an operating change even when the service address stays the same. The analyst should retain twelve complete bills, the rate schedule, meter identifiers, interval records, annual peak, annual consumption, power-factor information, and any account correspondence used to identify the class.

Solar production can reduce imported kilowatt-hours without automatically reducing the determinant used for a demand charge or minimum bill. A load change can also move the account between Small, Medium, and Large General Service. The baseline should reproduce the billed class and units before any project adjustment is applied. If the reproduced bill does not reconcile, the model remains review required and no annual saving should be reported.

Model energy, demand, and minimum billing on separate paths

Medium and Large General Service include demand and energy components with different units. A monthly energy reduction does not prove a demand reduction because billing demand depends on the applicable measurement rule and the site's interval peak. The model should calculate self-consumed solar energy by interval, identify the coincident billed demand for each month, and preserve fixed, minimum, rider, tax, discount, and power-factor lines until their treatment is verified.

Storage may change a peak only when its power, usable energy, reserve, efficiency, control timing, and recharge support the required event. Solar may lower a daytime peak at one facility and miss a morning, evening, seasonal, or process-driven peak at another. Enerwav does not turn the published demand charge into an assumed saving. The customer tariff and interval simulation must establish the affected quantity first.

Resolve the self-generation schedule transition from account history

BC Hydro states that Rate Schedule 2289 begins on 1 July 2026 and that Rate Schedule 1289 closes to new customers. Existing treatment can depend on whether the account was already enrolled and whether a solar-rebate transition applies. The owner should retain the enrolment date, rebate record, application correspondence, meter history, prior schedule, current schedule, and written utility confirmation that controls the account after the transition.

A public description of the new purchase price cannot decide which schedule applies to a particular customer. It also cannot establish how imported energy, excess generation, billing periods, taxes, or other account items settle in every circumstance. The project model should store import and export as separate quantities and attach the confirmed schedule to each value. Unconfirmed transition status keeps the export result suppressed.

Separate BCUC process evidence from effective customer terms

The British Columbia Utilities Commission procedural record establishes a regulatory process and its stated subject. It does not replace BC Hydro's effective customer rate page or the customer's accepted service arrangement. Enerwav uses the BCUC source to identify the proceeding boundary, not to manufacture an effective price, approval, or customer entitlement from a filing or procedural step.

A defensible record should identify whether a cited document is an application, order, decision, tariff sheet, utility implementation page, or account notice. Dates matter because a proceeding may precede the rate that eventually becomes effective. When sources differ, the team should request current utility confirmation and retain the controlling document. A proposed, interim, or procedural value must never be blended into a final tariff calculation without its status being explicit.

Build an interconnection file before committing equipment

The connection file should identify the legal customer, service point, existing supply, proposed AC and DC capacity, inverter certifications, protection, disconnects, metering, single-line diagram, expected export, operating limits, site ownership, permits, inspections, and responsible professionals. It should also track every submission, utility question, study, quotation, agreement, construction requirement, test, and authorization with dates and owners.

Utility findings can require service work, protection changes, export limits, a different inverter configuration, communications, or a smaller project. Those changes affect production, cost, schedule, and the proportion of generation used on site. A procurement decision made before the utility response should state that exposure. The final economic model must use the approved configuration, not the earlier proposal geometry or a vendor's assumed permission to export.

Use reviewed British Columbia records as bounded evidence

The filtered project section lists only reviewed British Columbia records that pass the current claim-safety check. They include different community, institutional, remote, solar, storage, and microgrid contexts. Published capacities and project states remain attached to their source records. Missing installed cost, bill class, export settlement, dispatch, availability, and realized savings remain unknown instead of being filled from another project.

A Burnaby demonstration, Summerland facility, island installation, Field battery, or Nemiah Valley microgrid does not establish a commercial rooftop benchmark. Those projects can help a reviewer see how Enerwav records location, technology, capacity, source dates, and evidence limits. A new project still needs its own bill, load, resource, site, utility, engineering, budget, contract, tax, and operating evidence before any recommendation is made.

Refine the Vancouver resource reference for the actual site

The Vancouver value is an annual municipal reference from the reviewed Natural Resources Canada dataset, based on 1974 to 1993 climatology and a south-facing surface at latitude tilt. It is not a province average, a current-year observation, or a guaranteed system yield. Coastal, island, interior, mountain, northern, roof, and ground conditions can differ materially from that reference.

The study should document exact location, horizon, shade, azimuth, tilt, row spacing, snow, soiling, temperature, module and inverter selection, mismatch, wiring, clipping, degradation, availability, curtailment, and approved export. The production model should state every loss and retain an uncertainty range. Enerwav's schematic mini-map communicates source custody and municipality selection only; it does not provide geographic coordinates or replace a site survey.

Close the British Columbia screen with measured evidence

The decision record should name the BC Hydro account and class, tariff effective date, self-generation schedule and transition basis, selected municipality resource, proposed size, annual and interval load sources, estimated self-use and export, demand method, connection status, project budget, operating cost, tax review, and each unresolved owner. Values from the page table should remain labelled as dated context even when they match the bill.

After commissioning, the owner should reconcile meter data, inverter records, bills, exported energy, billed demand, outages, curtailment, utility changes, and operating cost for the same periods. A difference between modeled and measured performance should be investigated rather than hidden by changing the baseline. Rate, class, equipment, load, or connection changes should trigger a dated model revision, with the earlier result preserved for audit.
